Elimko and HMS Networks – A lifelong, evolving partnership

Elimko’s collaboration with HMS Networks spans over two decades, evolving alongside the industry. Recently, Elimko upgraded to the next-generation Anybus Communicator gateways, where the gateway’s usability took center stage, even outshining improved performance.

Introduction to Elimko

Founded in 1976 in Turkey, Elimko has established itself as a global leader in Automatic Control Systems and Facility Solutions. Offering a wide range of products including paperless recorders, temperature measurement devices, and precision weighing equipment, Elimko has solidified its position as a trusted provider across various industries.

Hasan Akduman, Elimko general manager, explains: “We are the first Turkish company in our field, the first to manufacture instruments, sensors, and other industrial devices in Turkey. Our extensive industry relations include petrochemical, cement, glass, detergent, and steel sectors.”

Partnering with HMS Networks

Elimko often need to connect serial devices to Siemens PLCs running on PROFINET or PROFIBUS, which requires protocol conversion—something outside of Elimko’s area of expertise. To solve these connectivity issues, Elimko utilizes HMS’ Anybus products. Depending on the application, Elimko use either the Anybus CompactCom, which is embedded into the industrial equipment such as weighing scales, or a standalone Anybus Gateway.

For over two decades, Elimko has relied on Anybus products to establish the required communication, and the quality of the products has continuously impressed.

“The quality of the Anybus products has always been very good. We have Anybus products installed in Turkey, Algeria, and in many other countries, and they just work. If anything went wrong, the customers would inform us, but they don’t say anything.”

Continuing the journey with Anybus latest products

Recently, Elimko upgraded to the Next Generation Anybus Communicators, the latest Anybus gateway which offers improved performance, durability, and usability. It was the usability that really stood out for Elimko, as Hassan describes:

“The new gateway was very easy install. Adding it to the DIN rail was simple, and it was convenient that we didn’t need a special configuration cable; we just connected it and used the printed IP address to access the user interface.”

The user interface continued to make simplify the installation process. “The interface was also easy to use. We especially appreciated the endian swap feature. It was very helpful and useful for us, as it made adjusting parameters—such as changing characters in transactions—effortless.”

The next generation Anybus Communicator includes optimized hardware and an intuitive user interface.

And what about the documentation?

Elimko’s experience speaks volumes: “No idea! The hardware and the user interface were so intuitive that we didn’t look at the documentation.”
